On the way back to McMurdo, Spencer's friends take him past the Barne Glacier.
A Glacier is a bit like a river of ice.
It flows very slowly down the mountains, a few inches each day.
And eventually into the sea.
Here, the wind blows so hard, that it has polished one side of the glacier
Hey Spencer! Look at this old hut.
This is where the early Antarctic Explorer Sir Robert Scott used to live.
One hundred years ago.
From here, they left on foot to reach the South Pole.
Using wooden skis, and ponies and dogs.
That must have been a very, very long walk.
Spencer realizes just how lucky he was to get to South Pole, on a plane.
